 When it comes to individual therapy, couple counseling, marriage counseling or parent-child issues, experience matters...a lot; training matters...definitely. But what matters most is how well you and your therapist will work together. I advise prospective clients to meet with at least two therapists to determine who they feel most comfortable with. And with whom they feel safe and understood. Towards this end I offer, schedule permitting, a free initial consultation.
If you decide to work with me either in individual, couple or parent-child work, you will find my style to be collaborative and non-judgmental as we fine tune goals and set priorities. In a caring and supportive setting I will provide you with timely feedback as we discover how your current concerns and predicaments make sense given your unique life history. Together we will build on your strengths and identify ways to counteract the negative voices from the past.
Individuals often experience a profound sense of relief to find themselves understood, often for the first time. Couples are surprised to discover how well they have avoided acknowledging their most critical needs as ways emerge to lessen conflict, deepen their relationship and move forward with changed behavior and new understanding. Parents and children move past their most acute conflicts and establish a new and more satisfying relationship,
In addition to degrees from Harvard and Columbia, I have completed four years of post-masters training in individual psychodynamic psychotherapy; a one year intensive externship in marital and family therapy; in-service training in cognitive behavior therapy and child therapy and an externship in EFT (emotionally focused therapy for couples). I have had extensive experience in working with both individuals (adolescents and adults) and couples.
